Neosages Mantra (Cult)

This article is about the cult of Mantra MANTRA, not about the song.

The Cult of Mantra

The Neosages, better known as the Mantra, are a cult with their leader being Skys. Skys is also in a band called ‘Skys & the Starjammers’, we learn from the first Unbeleevable episode.

One of the files in the FOR SOF folder contains a poster for the band, inviting people to their show at October Palace on the 19th of December 2004, where the Trinity would end up meeting and working together for the first time.

This is the same location where the October Massacre would later take place, an event we see in the music video for Mantra, which signified the end of the cult.

Unbeleevable Episode 4 confirms that the cult of Mantra would eventually go on to become the Cult of Genxsis, the organisation that Dr. Lee MD sets out to expose in his series.

Backstory #

The cult was started by a man named Skys, who was born with pink hair. His parents abandoned him at 8 years old. After this point he fell in with a group of ‘nutters’ (as stated by Dr. Lee MD in Unbeleevable) and traveled the world. In the second Unbeleevable episode we learn that Skys was involved with a man named Alby, who was like a mentor to him that he ended up leaving after a fight. We also learn more about what young Skys went through in his own diary and the Book of Eclipse.

At some point he then picked up a guitar and his band got somewhat successful.

Project Kingslayer #

Project Kingslayer was a project to gain ancient power through ritualistic torture. Unbeleevable 3 reveals that Project Kingslayer started in 2015 with Skys’ loyal follower Alfgram as its patient zero.

Sof on Project Kingslayer in her journal

Strassman and Dallus did not agree with Skys’ experiments. Dallus left the cult, while Strassman stayed. One night Ava and Strassman decided to leave, while Ava was about to give birth. They take shelter with Dallus, where Strassman manages to deliver the baby. Ava sadly passes away. Skys, having been informed by Feya about poems exchanged between the two, hunts Strassman down and confronts him. After nearly beating him to death, Strassman confesses to the relationship between him and Ava, showing him that she had died. He also confessed that the real reason they had left the cult was the Project Kingslayer experiments. Skys manages to convince Strassman that he would stop the experiments, while secretly continuing the experiments in the basement. He also promises to take care of their daughter Angel, to better himself and that Strassman will be given the lead in more ethical research if he chooses to return to the cult.

Skys, however, continued Project Kingslayer in secret in the basement of the cult’s headquarters. Project D.U.S.T. proposal would later become Victor Carmine’s continuation of the project, after gaining access to insider cult knowledge through Operation Trinity.

It is stated that the Mantra cult was able to fend off hundreds of troops, seemingly using a psychological weapon like the mares to paralyse the troops with fear. This project was the source of the cult’s powers and continues into Project D.U.S.T. at Arc/Hive.

Before the Fall #

After discontinuing Project Kingslayer publicly, there was divide within the cult about the decision. Strassman returns to Mantra and starts working on researching the ‘spirit molecule’, referencing the real-life work of Rick Strassman and his book “The Spirit Molecule”. In this book, the spirit molecule being referred to is DMT. This new research involves gifted children.

Alfgram especially was displeased with Skys and calls him, in Dr. Lee MD’s words, “a little pussy-ass bitch” in front of everyone. According to the Book of Eclipse, written by Alfgram’s followers, Alfgram calls Skys out on the sin of pride. Alfgram and some of his followers decide to leave, infuriating Skys. The Book of Eclipse described Skys hunting Alfgram down and killing him, upon which he claims to become “The First Eclipse”. Alfgram is considered the founder of Ecliptism, a new religious movement that will later resurface in the DTC.

The tension and approach to traitors has meanwhile put a lot of pressure on Medea, who contacts Arc/Hive again. When she first arrived at October Palace, a bio chip was implanted in her neck. After giving Arc/Hive access to that chip, they have been monitoring her since her arrival. They also know about her baby. Trying to protect the baby, she reveals the research Strassman and Skys have been conducting with gifted children. She also informs Arc/Hive that Angel is manifesting powers traditional science can not explain.

Feya finds out about this call and immediately tells Skys. The Novosovian government starts to attack the cult. Unbeleevable Episode 4 closes on Skys alone with a bottle of pills, in clear decline. The final shot appears to continue into the opening of the Mantra music video, where Skys fakes his own death.

Fall of the Cult #

In the music video for Mantra we see the fall of the cult in an event that is later named the October Massacre, at the October Palace, the same place where the collaboration between the trinity started in 2004. We see Skys in his office (seemingly) taking Mantra and dying. He is found by a woman in red, who we learn is called Medea at the end of the second Unbeleevable episode, and a funeral is planned.

The music video also shows us the funeral, where the cult members all take Mantra and start convulsing violently. A mysterious electricity-like power knocks out or kills all the cult members. Medea seems to be targeted specifically after the other cult members fall down, with her head eventually exploding. We then see Skys smirk in his coffin, showing that he is not dead.

The Trinity document also reveals that Skys’ death was indeed faked and that he was extracted from Novosovia in Operation Trinity.

It is believed that ARC/HIV recognizes the potential of their research and seeks to attract them to their ranks to advance their technological and neuronal learning initiatives.

Arc/Hive Gets Involved #

ARC/HIVE was after the practices of the Neosages/Mantra cult and the research from Project Kingslayer, extracting Skys along with Dallus Lauren and Karl Strassman. The operation took place around the 25th December 2020 and was ordered by Victor Carmine. It formed the foundation for Project D.U.S.T., which would expand on the research from project Kingslayer, as well as the application of mares as weapons.

However, Dallus later notes in his diary that Skys is in a coma and his body is “useless”. In Rebecca’s second Grumblr entry Skys gets another shot at life as a synth(etic human). He starts laughing before begging for death. Strassman and Dallus argue over how Skys got into this state and Rebecca states “I’ll do it.”.

joinmantra.org #

Mantra logo with the phrase "An Invitation to Salvation"

joinmantra.org was a promotion for the music video for Mantra (song).

An invitation to salvation is shown on the webpage, along with the Mantra logo. The website contained a slightly moving image of Oli in the music video. It was revealed to be a teaser for the song.

The website sadly does not exist in this form, but it can be viewed on the wayback machine.
