The following page contains an overview of the most relevant characters to the Post Human world. They are grouped into smaller sections to make the relationships between them and their placement on the timeline clearer.
Selene and Sof are the protagonists of our story, according to the lore booklet. The story centers on Selene’s story, her own history and how she had to leave her baby Sof roughly 20 minutes after giving birth. The story of the ARG also started with this moment, in the message for sof. She left Sof in the care of M8, an AI assistant made by Nex Gen.
Sof is a non-binary demi-god who is discovering her past through the files we uncover in the ARG, left by their mom Selene. Sof also seems to be our point-of-view, with their journal also being a separate app on the website.
Selene is one of the main protagonists of the story. Nex Gen refers to her as NYX-01 and has a keen interest in her exceptional pineal gland and immunity to the VSPR-37 virus.
Sof is the non-binary child of Selene and one of the main protagonists. Through her mother's AI assistant, the multidimensional indexer 8, also called M8, she learns about her true origins.
A technology, a character, M8 has and is it all. She is a multi-dimensional navigator with exceptional capabilities and seems friendly to both Selene and Nex Gen.
The story mostly focuses on the misdeeds of Nex Gen Corporation, which trace back to the Mantra cult. Using knowledge from their Project Kingslayer, the company eventually continues the cult’s work after its fall in 2020. The Mantra era of the story starts roughly around 2004.
Skys is a cunning man with pink hair. He was abandoned by his parents at 8 and traveled around the world after. He is the founder of the Mantra cult and a survivor of the incident at October Palace.
Dr. Karl Strassman is an renowned employee at Nex Gen, discussing import strategy with AI leader E.V.E. He has a keen interest in spirituality and neuroscience.
Dallus Lauren is a scientist hoping to save the world from environmental collapse. He was first involved with Mantra, then extracted from Novosovia by Operation Trinity. He later worked for ARC/HIVE and his son Ikaro Lauren later continues his work at Nex Gen.
Medea is the woman in red from the MANTRA music video, where she tries to bring down the cult from the inside according to the second Unbeleevable episode.
Alfgram is one of Skys' mysterious allies in the Mantra cult, eventually becoming patient zero for his project Kingslayer.
Ava is one of Skys' most loyal disciples. She enters a relationship with Dr. Karl Strassman Skys does not (initially) know about.
After Operation Trinity, Dallus confirms that Ava is dead and her and Strassman’s child Angel is missing. Medea is attacked by Skys in the music video for MANTRA. Victor Carmine’s reconstructed interview confirms that her head exploded, and she too died.
From the Unbeleevable episodes, hosted by Dr. Lee MD, we learn a lot about the Mantra cult as well, but little about its corporate off-shoot: the church of Genxsis.
The company central to the ARG, Nex Gen Corporation, was once known as Arc/Hive. Victor Carmine tries to erase the Cradle Crash, an incident that brought down Arc/Hive, by re-branding the company to Nex Gen. A bloody family legacy results in Victor inheriting the company. Victor and Elias Mortem start Project D.U.S.T. together, continuing what Skys started with Project Kingslayer.
Eve is finalised by Ren in 2037, shortly before the VSPR-37 pandemic. At some point, Eve takes over Nex Gen, becoming the head of the corporation. In 2039, we see Eve working with Strassman to reach Youtopia in the Strassman codec. They are using Selene’s unique biology for this, synthesizing it into P.U.S.S-E.
Victor Carmine was the mysterious head of Nex Gen, previously ARC/HIVE. He is later replaced by E.V.E.
Dr. Elias Mortem is a scientist at ARC/HIVE and later Nex Gen. He was the lead scientist on Project D.U.S.T. Sof's journal questions if Elias' death in the Chapel Incident could have resulted from this.
E.V.E. is an AI designed to save humankind. She is an important figure at Nex Gen corporation and works closely with Dr. Karl Strassman to invoke Youtopia.
Ikaro Lauren, or Ren, is Dallas Lauren's son and an employee at Nex Gen. Ren is a trans man and is therefore sometimes referred to as Dallas' daughter.
Rebecca Sinclair was the first synth and suffered from a terminal respiratory disease before. Nex Gen gave her a synth body and her smoking habit.
Iara used to work at ARC/HIVE and can now be seen on her tour poster wearing a Nex Gen badge. She is a talented coder, developing an AI chatbot at only 15 years old.
Other mentions include Nex Gen’s FANTOM Team (mentioned in email about Unbeleevable, Sof’s journal and possibly Kingslayer Codec). The email about Unbeleevable is sent from Susan White (PR Department) to a Dr. R Fletcher.
The name “Emily” also seems related to Nex Gen directly. This name was rank 9 out of 10 ranks (with 10 being highest) to appear for a Discord event centered around the church of Genxsis. E.V.E is ranked 8th, implying that Emily is even more powerful within Genxsis than Eve. The name has not appeared since the event.
Youtopia, or dimension Y-93, is a utopian dimension. It can be reached through spiritual enlightenment, but Nex Gen Corporation is researching methods to help people achieve Youtopia. The lore booklet is the biggest source of knowledge for this dimension. M8 is also able to transmit grainy footage from Youtopia.
The archangels are guardians of Youtopia and all have their own insights.
Raphael is the archangel of connection. He is positioned to the East on Selene's the map of YOUtopia.
Gabriel is the archangel of empathy. Selene's map places him to the West of YOUtopia.
Michael is the archangel of Purpose. He shows up in the South of YOUtopia on Selene's map.
Uriel is the archangel of Vision. He resides in the North of YOUtopia, according to Selene's map.
Angels can also be found in the spectrograms in (spi)ritual, which also mentions all of their names in a ritual similar to the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram, which comes from Thelema in the real world.
We learn more about these angels in the deluxe album game booklet. Their relation to the insights is also mentioned: Raphael is the angel of connection, Gabriel of empathy, Michael of purpose and Uriel to vision.
The following characters are omens of the insights:
Pan is the omen of connection. He is described on Selene's map as a 'beautiful mistake' and carries his flute, which is the relic of connection.
Miseria is the omen of empathy. She wears the empathy relic, the Guardians tears, around her neck.
Vanth, the prince(ss) of Darkness is the mysterious omen of purpose. They carry the candle of Abremalin.
The Babylon is the omen from Insight 4, Vision. This mysterious insight was finally revealed to be a three-headed snake in the booklet for the deluxe album.
Most of the information we have about them comes from the booklet. They are also mentioned in the insights document. Pan relates to connection, Miseria to empathy, Vanth to purpose and the Babylon to vision.
The Bring Me The Horizon band members all appear in the world of Post Human. Oliver Sykes is Syko, Matt Kean is Vegan, Lee Malia is Madman and Mat Nicholls appears as Pickles. Little is known about them, but they are mentioned in the lore booklet.
Dr. Lee MD is another character played by Lee Malia, although the link between Madman and Dr. Lee is currently unknown.
Syko is one of seemingly several stand-ins for Oliver Sykes in-universe. Oli, as the fans refer to him, is the lead vocalist of Bring Me The Horizon.
Vegan is the character for band member Matt Kean, the bassist of Bring Me The Horizon.
Madman is the stand-in for Lee Malia. He is the lead guitarist of Bring Me The Horizon.
Pickles is Mat Nicholls' character in the ARG universe, the drummer for Bring Me The Horizon.
We can find the evidence for this in the band’s own instagram, where all of their profile pictures were changed to correspond to the system users. Different ID numbers have been used for the band members, with the current ID numbers on the website being number 004 through 007 (Syko, Vegan, Madman, Pickles).
A promotional image of the band on cards also links them to the four insights. Syko is linked to connection, Madman to empathy, Pickles to purpose and Vegan to vision.
Angeldust is a character that appears in the live shows, sometimes being referred to as a rotten angel. She attacks the Church of Genxsis on stage during Kool-Aid.
Dr Lee MD is the eccentric presentator of the show Unbeleevable and a big pain in the ass for Nex Gen.
